According to yesterday's Variety
on-line, HanWay Films requested 6 slots at MIFED
(Milan's Int'l Film and TV market) but was only
awared 4. "This
has forced HanWay to reconsider the possibility
of staging a private cast and crew screening in
London the week before -- a classic example of
Mifed shooting itself in the foot." MIFED
runs from November 2-7. |
| 09/30/02 |
According to yesterday's Variety
(online), "HanWay's Thierry Wase-Bailey
says he hasn't decided whether to premiere Mike
Barker's "To Kill a King" in
MIFED, or to stage a cast-and-crew screening in
London." |
| 09/13/02 |
Good news! I contacted HanWay
Films to find out what the chances were for To
Kill a King to be shown in the States.
Their response was "quite high".
2003 may be a banner year for Dougray Scott
fans!

As promised yesterday, here's the
skinny on extras and films.
In the interview with Mike Barker, he was quoted
has saying he had only "4 extras".
This may well be true, in that they were most
likely paid extras. However, he had
tons of other extras who volunteered their time.
Some were re-enactors (people whose hobby is
dressing up and re-enacting an event or a place
and time), while others were simply local
townsfolk who wanted to be in the movie.
Many films use both paid and volunteer
extras. Usually paid extras receive a set
dollar (or in this case pound) amount per day
plus meals. Volunteer extras are sometimes
given meals but not always - that depends on the
film. |
| 07/30/02 |
A couple other "news"
websites picked up The
Guardian interview with Mike Baker and
really distort the facts using sensational
headlines like:
War
film gives up on battle scenes due to lack of
extras
- 07/30/02 Ananova
and
Battlefield
Dearth - 07/30/02 Empire online
Both articles pick up on a minor quote
from Mike Barker that he only had "4
extras". Well dear friends, allow me
to fill you in on how films and
"extras" work - tomorrow. |

It looks like the producers and
HanWay Films has come up with a new name for the
film. It will be marketed at Cannes as
"To
Kill A King".
For those lucky enough to be invited, today's
Variety reports that the private screening for
"To Kill A King" (aka "Cromwell
& Fairfax") will be held
Monday, May 20 (not the 19th as they reported
last Friday). |

Back on April 30th, "R-bob" told us about a possible
re-naming of the film. Well, Future
Film Group who is one of the financiers of the film, shows
"Cromwell & Fairfax" as the 'working title'. So let's
have some fun. If you could give "Cromwell &
Fairfax" a new name, what would it be?

"Cromwell and Fairfax," the $21
million Brit pic that was forced to suspend production Feb. 11
when its financing fell apart, still hasn't restarted shooting.
This week, perhaps -- if negotiations with a gap financier can be
concluded. But there won't be a deal with Fox Searchlight at this
stage for North American rights, as previously suggested.

C&F is listed as one of IAC
Film's products at the AFM (American Film Market). The
AFM was held February 20-26 and is a market where filmmakers go to
sell their films. Since C&F hasn't yet completed
filming, they probably used the same, or additional footage that
was privately screened at Cannes. (See 2/13/02
