Dr. William Rivers (Jonathan Pryce), has begun to hover on the edge of a breakdown as a result of his close involvement with his patients.

Siegried Sassoon (James Wilby), a brilliant and  heroic soldier is sent to the asylum after publishing an outspoken and illegal anti-war pamphlet.

Wilfred Owen (Stuart Bunce), whose support from Sassoon enabled him to write what is now regarded as the finest poetry to emerge from the First World War is also a fellow patient.

Billy Prior (Jonny Lee Miller), is an officer who cracks under the terrible emotional pressure of war.  While being treated at the hospital, Prior falls in love with a local girl (Tanya Allen) whose tenderness and passion put him on the road to recovery.

Regeneration takes a serious look at the tolls on the human psychic caused by the horrors of man's inhumanity to man in the arena we call War.
