Enigma star Dougray Scott lost 22lb thanks to his very own version of the cabbage soup diet.  He shares his tips for weight loss with Now Star Diet & Fitness

Dougray Scott is only half the man he used to be.  When he battled Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 2, he had huge muscles.  But he reshaped his body for a wimp-like look for his latest film Enigma.

Then

Scottish-born Dougray, 36, put himself on a strict diet to trim 22lb from his 5ft 11in frame to weight in as a 10st 12lb weakling to play mastermind code-breaker Tom Jericho.

'I used a cabbage soup diet,' he says.

There was no alcohol, some meat and lots of cabbage soup, which burns up the calories for seven days.  I lost about a stone in the first week and just went on from there.'

Despite losing so much weight, Dougray doesn't recommend long-term use of the diet.

'You aren't loosing body fat in the last first week.' he says.  'I was told it was mostly water and it was breaking down muscle mass. It's just a great way to start. To see such a result after just a week acts as encouragement to continue dieting. It also gets you out of bad eating habits and gives you a feel of wellbeing.'

'I can't comment on whether it has side-effects or is dangerous to follow. I'm an actor not a dietitian.  But it worked for me and got me started.  It was unbelievable.'

Dougray admits that he's already something of a disciplinarian when it comes to diet. He trained for months to build muscle before starting work on Mission: Impossible 2 and, at one point, reached a solid 13st.

'I worked out every day with a trainer, when we were filming,' he says. 'I was up at 5:30 or earlier every single morning. He'd also have sessions at lunchtimes.  By the time filming was over at the end of the day, I was exhausted.  All I wanted to do was to get as much sleep as possible before the next dawn call.

To go from that to making Enigma was ? Whether you're putting on weight or taking it off, it's all down to discipline and determination. I don't know if I'd have the same determination if it wasn't for filming. It was a case of having to get down to it.'
