New and Future Projects
Dougray is in Cannes this week where To
Kill a King had a private screening Monday evening. He's
also drumming up interest for his new production (which he'll have
a cameo in) The
Bum's Rush.
He has joined Hero Films as a partner and
they are developing another project for him called Curious Moments.
He will take the lead role as a narcoleptic journalist on a quest loosely inspired by "Jason
and the Argonauts.
Independent of Hero Films, Dougray is attached to play Dylan Thomas in
Chris Monger's The Map of Love for Mick Jagger's Jagged
Films. He will also star in New Line's Hurricane Season.

Enigma
Thanks to Manhattan
Pictures, I was able to attend the press screening today. After
waiting for what seemed to be an eternity to see Enigma, was it
worth the wait? YES!
It was BRILLIANT! I happen to already favor WWII movies, but
unlike most with their big explosive battle scenes that rattle your
senses, Enigma engaged my mind. The multiple plots/intrigues
which were cleverly interwoven kept me guessing and even when I thought I
had figured out how the movie would end, I was pleasantly surprised to
discover I wasn't as clever as I thought.
I give Enigma 5 out 5 'Scotsman' on my personal movie rating scale:

"Ripley's
Game"
According to today's Screen
Daily, "Fine Line production Ripley's
Game starring John Malkovich and Dougray Scott will be screened [at
Cannes], while the company is looking to close a renewal of its longterm
deal with Entertainment Film Distributors in the UK as well as completing
deals in other territories."
The
Hollywood Reporter also lists Ripley's Game in their Cannes
Film Festival section, along with the release date of October 4,
2002. Hopefully this means that the film was repaired and the
release date is still a go!

"Enigma"
Today's Variety ran a long article about independent films versus the
major studio films and mentions how "Enigma" knocked out it's
'competition' with another indie film in New York. It's an
interesting read for those of you who wonder how independent films are
marketed.

"Ripley's
Game"
Well, it just doesn't sound like the actors had any fun making this
film. Ray Winstone complained about the multi-lingual problems
on-set and needing translators all the time. Now in an April 29th article
in The New York Times, and re-printed in the Sun-Sentinel,
co-star Lena Headey is quoted as saying:
"It was hideous," Headey, now in her late
20s, said with typical bluntness of her experience of working on Ripley's
Game. The film, directed by Liliana Cavani and starring John Malkovich,
will be released this fall. "I wouldn't want to repeat it. We had no
freedom to do anything. But that's what being an actor is all about, that
you have an energy that you need to expel and experiment with."

Some recent reviews:
"Dougray Scott scores a bull's-eye as
Jericho, conveying convincing intellectual acumen as well as a sense of
deep emotional vulnerability (and he's sexy as hell)." -
Jean Oppenheimer, Dallas
Observer
"The movie is splendidly proficient,
recalling a time and a mood when secret codes were fascinating and
frightening. It gives us a taste of a bygone world while almost completely
satisfying its genre requirements in a manner not often seen these
days." B - Abbie Bernstein, Cinescape
"There is something admirable in Enigma's
Sherlock Holmesian insistence that ratiocination can be suspenseful, that
the discovery of clues, both true and false, can have dramatic impact.
Enigma is not for everyone, but the thoughtful (and the historically
minded) will find it an absorbing and extremely well-textured
experience." - Richard Schickel, Time
