As promised yesterday, here's the skinny on extras and films.
In the interview with Mike Barker, he was quoted has saying he had only
"4 extras". This may well be true, in that they were most
likely paid extras. However, he had tons of other extras who
volunteered their time. Some were re-enactors (people whose hobby is
dressing up and re-enacting an event or a place and time), while others
were simply local townsfolk who wanted to be in the movie.
Many films use both paid and volunteer extras. Usually paid
extras receive a set dollar (or in this case pound) amount per day plus
meals. Volunteer extras are sometimes given meals but not always -
that depends on the film.

Dougray Scott Updates
Don't forget to keep
voting for Dougray and Enigma for the 2002 Internet Movie
Awards! Voting continues until August 18th! ->
Today was Dougray's big golf day! 72 holes over 4 golf
courses!
Hopefully the UK press will have some photos of the event tomorrow.
Until then, here's an interesting article thanks to Tamara of

A couple other "news" websites picked up The
Guardian interview with Mike Baker and really distort the facts using
sensational headlines like:
War film gives up on battle scenes due to
lack of extras
- 07/30/02 Ananova
and
Battlefield Dearth - 07/30/02 Empire
online
Both articles pick up on a minor quote from Mike Barker that he only
had "4 extras". Well dear friends, allow me to fill you in
on how films and "extras" work - tomorrow.

Enigma
CORRECTION: Contrary to what the Enigma DVD
art says at the top of the box (see below), the DVD will not be a 'special
edition' containing the all features listed yesterday.
According to a Sony/Columbia-TriStar press release
(dated July 15, 2002), it will just be a wide-screen with bonus
trailers. Bummer.
Nor will the German DVD have the special features. Enttäuschung.
