June 6, 2000 The Daily Record OTR: Off The Record Doug Cruising for a bruising; He falls off bike trying to copy Tom SCOTS heart-throb Dougray Scott almost killed himself trying to match the action man screen antics of Tom Cruise. Scott, who plays the villain in Mission: Impossible 2, fell off a motorbike at breakneck speed. And director John Woo reckons the star's eagerness to please landed him in a hospital bed. Action movie king Woo, who directed Face-Off with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, said: "Dougray has never done a big action movie before. "And when he sees Tom do anything by himself, he also wants to try. "He hurt his back, and his ribs. It took a month and a half of rest before he could shoot again." Cruise, who is set to make pounds 75million from the movie, is famous for doing most of his own stunts. He did 95 per cent of the fist-fighting himself, did his own motor bike riding, and leapt from a 2000ft cliff without a safety net seven times. The US star's daredevil work left Dougray wondering where he got the energy. He said: "Sometimes I wanted to find Tom's battery pack and disconnect it." Although the release of M:I 2 is set to take Dougray on to a new stage of stardom, he maintains he won't let it go to his head. He said: "I'm not going to get carried away with this M:I 2 thing. You never know in this industry. People make plans for you, but you have to make sure you make plans for yourself first." |
