It's Scot to be Ally for Bond role

RECORD readers have decided Ally McCoist should be the next James Bond.

More than a third of the voters said Ally, who has just made his film debut in A Shot at Glory directed by Hollywood great Robert Duval, should be the first Scottish James Bond in 18 years.

But a close friend said the cheeky former Rangers striker would spend too much time flirting with the Bond girls.

Voters who called the Record's "Time for a Scottish Bond" campaign picked Gerard Butler as their second choice.

The former Glasgow University law student starred in Dracula earlier this year. He told the Record he has already been meeting Bond producers but refused to say if he had been offered the role.

The Paisley-born actor said: "I'm flattered. I can't say any more but no one has been chosen yet."

Dougray Scott, from Glenrothes, Fife was third choice followed by an unlikely candidate in Chewin' the Fat favourite Ronald Villiers. The full results were:

1. Ally McCoist

2. Gerard Butler

3. Dougray Scott

4. Ronald Villiers

5. Angus MacFadyen

6. Ewan McGregor

7. Iain Glen
