| M:I-2 actor turned
down 007 role after fear of Connery's legacy
Scots actor Dougray Scott, who shot to
Hollywood fame playing the villain in Mission:Impossible II,
has turned down the chance to replace Pierce Brosnan, it has
emerged.
Scott, who starred in The Crow Road and Soldier
Soldier before Hollywood beckoned, admitted he felt that he
couldn't match up to previous Caledonian incumbant Sean Connery.
An informal approach was made by Bond film makers UIP to his
LA agents, but the Fife-born actor decided to pass on the chance
to replace Brosnan - who is set to stand down from the role
after completing his next 007 movie. Scott told journalists
today: "I'm very flattered that people consider me good
enough to play James Bond. But I couldn't play that part any
better than Sean did. To be honest, I am not convinced I am
suave enough for the part.
"I wouldn't even play one of the baddies, because I've
been there and done that already with Mission:Impossible
II."
