Dougray's brave new girlfriend
by Tamzin Lewis
COURAGEOUS leukaemia sufferer Johanna
MacVicar is the secret woman in film star Dougray Scott's
life.
She will accompany the Scots hunk as his special guest to
premiere of his latest movie, Ripley's Game, in London,
The pretty 24-year-old inspired Dougray for his role as a
picture-framer dying of leukaemia, in the blockbuster
sequel to The Talented Mr Ripley. Johanna, of Bishopton,
near Glasgow, said: "He was incredibly sensitive on
the subject of my illness.
"We met several times and just chatted. He asked me
how I felt about leukaemia and sometimes he felt
uncomfortable about asking but I was completely open with
him."
Johanna was keen to share her own experiences with the
actor, enabling him to portray the character Jonathan
Trevanney, who has suffered a failed bone marrow
transplant.
She said: "I was pleased he asked for guidance,
because you see medical TV shows which give completely
wrong information about bone marrow transplants.
"I am delighted to be asked to the premiere of
Dougray's film next month.
"Now he is committed to raising awareness of the
Anthony Nolan bone marrow register and even helping fund
raise.
Both Dougray and rock superstar Robbie Williams will join
the register which is seeking donors for around 7,000
people world-wide.
Johanna, who suffers chronic myeloid leukaemia, is
awaiting her perfect donor to join the UK's Anthony Nolan
bone marrow register.
Currently in remission, she says her life has dramatically
changed lately.
The customer services specialist said: "I have come
off the medication for leukaemia and I feel so well now
and have so much energy."
The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust's number is 0141
9590770.
