| Logistically a
difficult project given the different
nationalities and the multiple locations (Berlin
and Italy) involved, the shoot overran by two
weeks, forcing veteran Italian director Liliana
Cavani to fulfill a previous engagement, directing
opera in Italy. Fortunately, executive producer
John Malkovich was at hand and, with no immediate
solution in sight, the Francophile actor was
persuaded to step in and lens the final shots.
However, 68 year-old Cavani is now back at the
helm, supervising post-production duties, which
are said to be proceeding "very well."
Co-star Ray Winstone, who had been reported as
being critical of the production in the past,
confirmed exclusively to Empire that his
relationship with the legendary Night Porter was a
fruitful one. "She's a good lady," said
the Sexy Beast star. "She smiles a lot at me,
and I smile back, and we're okay. It is difficult
working when everything's being translated for
you, but I've got the utmost respect for
her."
Ripley's Game is due for release next year.
Empire apologises for the factual inaccuracies and
erroneous implications in the previous set report.
