The Diary: Hoots monsoon
by Ken Smith and David Belcher
FILM star Dougray Scott and Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave
slogged their way through three rounds of golf at Skibo, Gleneagles,
and Turnberry on Tuesday to raise more than (pounds) 100,000 for
charity despite the monsoon weather. Says Dougray:
"Every few minutes when it rained someone would shout over, 'Hey
Steve! You should be in a boat. Ha, ha'." Yes, good old Scottish
humour.
So serious were the two during the Sun Microsystems golf marathon that
they played the last hole at Turnberry in the dark and in the rain.
"You couldn't see the ball on the tee, far less the
fairway," opined Sir Steve, who eventually lost to Dougray
- a 10-handicap shark whose skills were honed as a boy in
Glenrothes. Superhuman stain
Dougray Scott is, of course, a fanatical Hibs fan as well. One of his
proudest possessions is a Hibs top given to him by fans-favourite
Frank Sauzee after a rare Hibs European tie. It even had a splattering
of Frank's blood on it after another do-or-die effort from the
defender. Imagine Dougray's shout of horror next day as he stopped his
kids' nanny just in time as she found the grubby top and threw it in
the washing machine.
