Dougray Scott to play religious vigilante

Dougray Scott is being tipped to play a clergyman who becomes a karate-kicking street vigilante in the crime thriller Preacher.

The film is about a cleric who loses his faith after witnessing crime waves in many US cities.

When a colleague is mugged and murdered he quits the church and travels from east to west taking the law into his own hands.

The movie will be directed by Rachel Talalay, who directed Tankgirl and the recent re-make of the Randall and Hopkirk television series.

William H Macy is in line to play the FBI agent who follows the preacher's trail.

Scott, 35, soon to be seen in the Second World War drama Enigma, has also just finished making Ripley's Game with John Malkovich.
