When the New Line thriller "Ripley's Game"
wrapped principal photography in Berlin last month after
an 11-week shoot in Italy and Germany, it was star John
Malkovich and not the film's Italian director Liliana
Cavani ("The Night Porter") who helmed
"Ripley's" final clapper board snap, according
to sources. Malkovich was Cavani's stand-in for the final
three days of "Ripley's' " shoot because Cavani
had to be in Milan's La Scala opera house to direct
rehearsals for Giuseppe Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera."
