Dougray's Hair Scare
Exclusive: Star's New Look
by John Millar
SCOTS movie hunk Dougray Scott told
last week how his swashbuckling, long -haired look for
his latest movie terrified his kids.
He stars in Cromwell and Fairfax, which is set during
the 17th-century civil war between the Roundheads and
Cavaliers. With a flowing hairstyle, moustache and
goatee beard, the award-winning Scots actor plays Sir
Thomas Fairfax, the aristocrat in charge of Oliver
Cromwell's Parliamentary army.
But the Fife-born star's new look wasn't too popular at
home with his three -year-old twins Eden and Gabriel.
"The kids didn't like this look one little
bit," said Dougray during a break in filming at
Hampton Court in London.
"Eden could plait the long hair, but Gabriel asked
me, 'Where's your real hair?'"
The pounds 13million film, which tells of betrayal and
intrigue between Cromwell and Thomas Fairfax, has a
star-studded cast.
Tim Roth plays Cromwell, Rupert Everett, of My Best
Friend's Wedding fame, is the ill-fated King Charles I
and Olivia Williams, star of The Sixth Sense, plays Lady
Anne Fairfax.
The historical drama meant a drastic change of image for
Dougray, who had a short back and sides in the Second
World War drama Enigma. The hair extensions that created
his shoulder length hair-do took about five and a half
hours to put in.
His costume for Cromwell and Fairfax includes a
wide-brimmed hat with a huge black plume, a handmade
suit and thigh-high boots.
Dougray said: "As soon as you put on the outfit, it
feels like stepping back in time."
The film marks Dougray's first role as associate
producer.
