'Cromwell' lives as Natural Nylon refinances
by Stuart Kemp

LONDON -- Natural Nylon Entertainment -- the British production company formed by actors Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Sean Pertwee and Sadie Frost -- has refinanced its $20 million production "Cromwell & Fairfax" after the project stalled during its first week of shooting.

The refinancing package means the film, which was forced to suspend filming four weeks ago when the original financing arrangements could not be completed, can resume shooting. The Mike Barker-directed film is expected to finish principal photography April 27.

The stars of "Cromwell" and the majority of the crew have agreed to take fee deferrals to help get the picture completed, according to producer Kevin Loader ("Captain Corelli's Mandolin"). Christopher Petzel and Scott Karol of Fierce Entertainment, who represent the investment in the film by the German fund Screenland Movieworld, have been working closely with Loader and Natural Nylon chief operating officer Tony Miller on the refinancing.

The new arrangement includes bringing on board HanWay, the U.K.-based international sales arm of independent production company Recorded Picture Co. HanWay is investing an undisclosed amount in return for taking worldwide sales rights from the original financier, IAC Film.

The historical drama details the story of Oliver Cromwell (Tim Roth) and Thomas Fairfax (Dougray Scott).  The duo led the parliamentary armies to victory in the English Civil War but finally came to blows over the execution of King Charles I (Rupert Everett).
