Cromwell
film-makers move Tower of London to Dover
Author unknown
The Tower of London was moved to Dover for a
blockbuster being filmed about the English Civil War.
The film, Cromwell And Fairfax, is due for release
next year, with Tim Roth playing Cromwell and Rupert
Everett as the unfortunate Charles the First.
The romantic lead is Dougray Scott as Sir Thomas
Fairfax, who commanded the Parliamentary armies during
the English Civil War.
Producer Kevin Loader, said: "Dover Castle is
much better as the Tower of London, because the
Victorians completely mucked that up.
"The difficulty has been trying to re-create
17th century London because
most of it burned down in 1666. I hope we have made a
period movie in the style of Elizabeth with a
contemporary edge and a bit of excitement.
"It is getting harder and harder to make an
ambitious British film without using American stars, I
think we have done very well to pull in some top notch
British actors."
