Liliana Cavani directs John Malkovich in
the sequel of The Talented Mr. Ripley
The shooting of Ripley's Game,
starring John Malkovich, and directed by filmmaker Liliana
Cavani has already begun in Italy. The script is based on
the homonymous novel by Patricia Highsmith.
According to our sources
from the Time Warner producers in Rome, Dougray Scott,
Ray Winston and Chiara Caselli also star in the thriller.
Ennio Morricone is in charge of the soundtrack.
The movie is a sequel to
The Talented Mr. Ripley, and the story takes place
20 years later. John Malkovich plays the aged Ripley,
played previously by Matt Damon, and, in the 1960´s, by
Alain Delon.
Ripley, an impostor
without any kind of scruples, plots a revenge against a
man who had insulted him in public, by framing him as the
guilty part in two crimes that had been committed by the
Mafia.
The shooting is taking
place in several locations in Northern Italy, including
Padova and Asolo, and also in the hotel owned by Malkovich
in the South of France.
Malkovich has recently
finished his first movie as a director: The Dancer
Upstairs, based on the fictitious arrest of Abimael
Gusmán, leader of the Peruvian terrorist group Sendero
Luminoso. The movie also stars Spanish actor Javier
Bardem.
Ripley's Game
represents a comeback for Liliana Cavani - who also
directed The Night Porter (1974) and The
Skin (1981). It's her first work in 8 years, since the
1993 movie Where are you? I'm here.
