Malkovich plays older Ripley (translated from original Swedish by Erika)
By Betty Skawonius

Interest in Tom Ripley, Patricia Highsmith's amoral hero gets himself a new identity and feeling that murder, love and envy in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" increased considerable after Anthony Minghellas' film adaptation of the book.

There we see a young Ripley, played by Matt Damon.  Now comes an older Ripley, not entirely surprising, played by John Malkovich.

Italian director Liliana Cavani, who made "The Night Porter", directs "Ripley's Game" written in 1974, 18 years after the first book.  Here the action again is murder and the process about the consequences to the huffy Tom Ripley.

"It's about a man with evil intentions", as said to be in the Swedish book, but better known is "The American Friend", directed by Wim Wenders and starring Dennis Hopper and Bruno Ganz.
