Thomas rides to the rescue
HE may not quite qualify as the saviour of British film but producer
Jeremy Thomas - the man behind the wonderful Sexy Beast - is fast
becoming the industry's white knight. Having stepped in to restart the
production of Young Adam, starring Ewan McGregor, as reported here last
week, he has now gone one better by salvaging the stalled production of
Cromwell and Fairfax.
The $ 18m movie starring Tim Roth as Oliver Cromwell, Rupert Everett as
Charles I and Dougray Scott as General Thomas Fairfax was three weeks
into shooting when the German financiers pulled out in mid- February due
to an abrupt change in the Teutonic tax laws. "I loved the footage
so much I thought it would be a tragedy if the film wasn't
completed," says Thomas. So - a bit of financial juggling later -
he has put together a distribution deal to allow the film to continue.
Shooting restarted last weekend.
