Actor Rupert Everett today filmed the beheading scene for the movie Cromwell And Fairfax.

The king was executed on January 30, 1649.

Everett, the star of My Best Friend's Wedding and An Ideal Husband, portrays King Charles 1 in

the forthcoming film about the English Civil War.

King Charles I famously requested that the executioner "await his sign" and held his arms out to initiate the axe's blow.

Cromwell And Fairfax also stars Tim Roth as Oliver Cromwell, Dougray Scott as Sir Thomas Fairfax and Olivia Williams as Lady Anne Fairfax.

It is expected to be released later in the year.
